Beginner or advanced, join Claudia Cauville for an exploration of the Nerikomi technique. During this afternoon workshop, we will work with black, red, white and blond stoneware to create pieces whose patterns are embedded within the clay itself.
Inspired by geological strata, folds, faults, marble and agate, the workshop invites participants to explore clay as a geological material. By stacking, folding, compressing and slicing the clay, each gesture transforms the layers and reveals new structures.
Like a geological cross-section, the patterns are not applied to the surface but revealed from within the material itself. Each participant will have the opportunity to create their own “imaginary geology” — a unique landscape formed through the movement and transformation of clay.
